Mr. F. Last was sent in by Dr. Smalley on the 19th.July.
He was very congested in the face and eyes tongue furred and very tremulous. Complained of much pain over epigastrium due to vomit- -ing which still persisted. His temperature was 102°- urine normal
- blood negative to malaria He had no delusions but admitted he
had been drinking a good deal tho' not, according to him, to
excess.

The following day he was somewhat better and had slept a
little under the influence of drugs. His temperature was normal and
he was less tremulous.
On the 21st. he became strange in his manner with lucid
intervals, looking under the bed for "chickens" and "syphons of
soda" &c. He did not know where he was and thought he was in Port-
-smouth, had seen Dr. Smalley at Cosport, had left Hongkong 2 years ago &c. &c. Later on in the evening he became very violent
and assaulted the ward boy and upset the other patients. He was
transferred to the Asylum where at 9 p.m. he had a bad fit became unconscious and his temperature rose rapidly to 107“. He died at
10.15 p.m.
